Welcome to the annual 5k and 1-mile fun run for the Rockport Public Schools Health and Wellness Programs. This event was created to engage our students and community in health and wellness activities. We are proud to be partnering with the Educational Foundation for Rockport (EFR) for the third consecutive year. The funds raised from this year's race will directly support the EFR in enhancing our health and wellness programs at Rockport Public Schools. Our mission is to cultivate a lifelong commitment to fitness and wellness by offering programs that promote well-being.
In the past year, we organized a school wide motivational sesionwith Nick Woodard, a national jump rope champion. Additionally, we provided each student with their own jump rope and sponsored an 8-week before-school jump rope program to encourage physical activity before classes. The funds also supported our school garden by providing equipment and supplies. Previously, we organized a family online health cooking class with Becca Gutstadt and distributed wellness kits to elementary school students to support fitness activities at home. Furthermore, we initiated a "choose your passion" unit where students could select a wellness activity and collaborate in small groups with a teacher or coach who shared their interest. This initiative encompassed activities such as hiking, mountain biking, tennis, orienteering, and healthy cooking.
Over the years, we have invested in various resources, including 35 pairs of snowshoes for physical education classes, guest speakers, yoga instructors, equipment for the juggling club, support for the elementary school run club program, water fountains, water filtration systems, composting programs led by 5th-grade leaders, and the jump rope for health program, among others.
We are thrilled by the success of these initiatives and are committed to expanding our programs further. Thank you for joining us in promoting health and wellness in our community!
Awards
Cash prizes and free race entry to next years race will be awarded to the overall top male and female runners. There will also be prizes awarded for the top 2 runners male and female per age division. All 5K runners who cross the finish line will earn a Motif #1 5K race medal.
