It is illegal to operate snowmobiles on the New York State Thruway or other interstate highways. However, snowmobiles may operate on the shoulders and inside banks of some highways that have been designated and posted for snowmobile use by the State of New York. Additionally, snowmobiles may ride on designated highways for a total distance of 500 yards to connect to operational areas or adjacent trails.
