Box Butte Reservoir SRA encompasses 2,212 acres (1,600-acre lake) on the west edge of the Sandhills, 9 miles N of Hemingford.

Facilities/Activities: Electrical and Primitive camping, water, boat ramp, fish cleaning station, unsupervised swimming, picnic tables, shelters, vault toilets, fishing and hiking.

Reservoir was ok but lots of trash was along the bank and the shoreline was very rocky. It also was a little smelly. A water intake wasn't marked and our dog nearly got caught in the whirlpool.
