Long Pond Preserve

The Long Pond Preserve was acquired by the Nature Conservancy from a group of Waccabuc residents who had purchased 39 acres at the western end of Lake Waccabuc for the purpose of protecting the lakeside from development.

The trail can be accessed by crossing the wet meadow and walking south along the lake where a well marked trail affords close observation of the lake shore and views to Castle Rock. The ruins of a 19th century ice house are evident in the woods. A hemlock forest indicates the boundary of the preserve. The trail is approximately one half mile.

Note: Tarry-a-Bit Drive is a private road bordering the Preserve.

Level: Easy with some rough, wet areas
