The state of Alaska does not require registration of most ATVs through the DMV because they're not manufactured to comply with federal and state highway regulations. However, an ATV owner can register their ATV to prevent theft. In addition, if you put low-pressure tires on your ATV for travel across snow, it becomes a "snow vehicle." Under Alaska law, all snow vehicles must be registered.
