Minnesota doesn’t require a specific off-road license. However, anyone born after July 1, 1987, must complete an approved online ATV safety course and print the certificate. Riders who are ages six through 15 must also complete a hands-on ATV safety class. If the rider is 10 years-old or younger, a parent or guardian must accompany them to the hands-on training.
You also must have a valid driver’s license anytime you operate an ATV on a road right-of-way—including crossing a road. Riders who are ages 12 to 16 and have a valid ATV youth safety certificate can ride with a licensed adult on a separate ATV.
