Minnesota requires a snowmobile safety certification by law for anyone born after Dec. 31, 1976. They ask that individuals partake in a certification course in order to operate a snowmobile lawfully. There are two separate certification programs. One for youth ages 11-15 (either online or traditional) and the other for adults ages 16 and up (either online or traditional). If a rider is under the age of 10, then a parent or guardian must accompany them to the certification course.
