Children under 12 years-old can ride on private land when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Teens aged 12 to 15, with safety certificates, can ride on public trails when accompanied by a rider over 18 years-old, but may only operate smaller-engine vehicles. No child under 12 is allowed to cross a road—even if moving from one parcel of private land to another. The ATV may be ridden by an adult or towed across the road. All riders under the age of 18 must wear a DOT-approved motorcycle or ATV helmet.
