Hawaiian waters are home to many, many species of fish. Ulua and papio (trevally jacks) are popular shore species. Offshore, anglers head to fish aggregating devices for 'ahi (yellowfin tuna), mahi mahi and a shot at a'u—the Hawaiian name for billfish species that include blue marlin, broadbill swordfish, and shortnose spearfish. Freshwater anglers can target largemouth and smallmouth bass, tilapia, channel catfish, bluegill and on Kauai, rainbow trout.
