Anyone born after Dec. 31, 1979 must complete a fire arms safety certification class in order to purchase a hunting license in Minnesota. The safety courses consist of 12 hours online or in the class room and a required field day with an instructor. Kids as young as 11 may take the course, but the certification will not become valid until they're 12 years old. Adults can complete the entire course online via a "virtual field day." A list of classes by date and the county in which they're offered can be found on the DNR Safety Training Calendar.
