If you're an Alabama resident, you can fish without a license—using live bait only—from the bank of a freshwater river, lake or stream in the county where you reside. Residents over the age of 64—and in possession of valid resident ID—are not required to purchase fishing licenses. Other anglers who plan to use a boat, artificials, or fish elsewhere on freshwater will need a license. Anyone over the age of 16 or under the age of 66 must have a license to target saltwater species. You can purchase your fishing license(s) at an approved license vendor or online at the Outdoor Alabama website.
