More than 60 percent of the state of Alabama remains covered in timberland, which makes it ideal habitat for many types of game animals, from deer and wild turkey to alligator and feral hogs. This in turn, means that hunters literally have millions of acres of hunting locations that they can choose from. These include wildlife management areas, wild land trust areas, national forests, the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge in the northern part of the state, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers properties.
