In Alabama, there is no age restriction for operating an ATV on public or private lands. However, Alabama agencies and law enforcement officials recommend that children under the age of 16 take a safety course and all riders under the age of 18 wear appropriate safety gear, including a Department of Transportation-approved helmet whenever they ride.
