Nebraska’s state parks offer a variety of fun and challenging trails for cross-country skiing once the snow hits the ground. Here are five amazing cross-country skiing spots in Nebraska. 

1. Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Ashland, NE

Throughout Mahoney State Park in Ashland there are several miles of hiking trails that are groomed in the winter months for cross-country skiing activities. Head to Mahoney State Park for a relaxing time away from the crowds and to get closer to nature.

2. Schramm Park State Recreation Area, Louisville, NE

Schramm Park State Recreation Area offers a 2.5-mile looped trail for more adventurous cross-country skiers to test their skills. Grab your skis and head to Louisville, Nebraska, for varying terrain and a scenic experience.

3. Pioneers Park Nature Center, Lincoln, NE

When the snow falls in Lincoln, cross-country skiers can head to Pioneers Park for a fun day out on well-groomed trails that wind through the beautiful pinewood forest. 

4. Ponca State Park, Ponca, NE

With 22 miles of trails that range from easy to rather challenging, Ponca State Park is groomed for cross-country skiers. Explorers will find approximately five miles of spur trails that provide a connection to other trails and park facilities, so you’ll be skiing all day long.

5. Indian Cave State Park, Shubert, NE

Best known for its loess hills formed by windblown soils, Indian Cave State Park is a cross-country skiers delight. There are more than 22 miles of trails available, and plenty of opportunity for wildlife viewing from deer, to fox, to turkey. Get an invigorating workout on the trails at Indian Cave.
