5 Great Paddleboarding Spots in Kansas

There are some truly unique spots across Kansas to enjoy flatwater, stand-up paddleboarding. Whether you’re simply looking for a therapeutic paddle, an invigorating core workout, or maybe a little paddleboard yoga, there’s something in Kansas for you. Check out these five great spots for stand-up paddleboarding in the state.  

1. Santa Fe Lake, Augusta, KS

Stand-up paddleboarders will enjoy the calm waters of Santa Fe Lake’s south shore. The easy waters are an excellent place for beginners to find their footing, but also a beautiful spot for the advanced paddlers to enjoy. Flatwater Fitness and Fun will provide you with rentals, lessons, and tours. Paddleboard rentals for a full day run at $75. You can participate in a PaddleFit Basic course, a PaddleFit SUP Fitness course, and several other one-hour classes for just $25 each.

2. Clinton State Park

Clinton State Park offers stand-up paddleboarders excellent flat-water spots on Clinton Lake near Lawrence. The clear waters, scenic views, and modern amenities make this a nice place to spend the day.

3. Kansas River National Water Trail

If you’re a novice paddler, this is the option for you. The Kansas River is wonderfully scenic, affording immaculate views of the natural landscape surrounding the water trail. Kayaking, fishing, and canoeing are popular in the area, but the 173-mile Kansas River also makes for an excellent paddleboarding spot.

4. Shawnee Mission Park, Shawnee, KS

At the 1,600-acre Shawnee Mission Park, paddlers will find a beautiful, shimmering 120-acre lake to explore. The lake is available to boaters, fishers, sail boarders, and more. Johnson County residents can rent paddleboards for $9 per half hour, and non-residents can rent for $10 per half hour.

5. O.J. Watson Park, Wichita, KS

One of the largest parks in the Wichita park system, O.J. Watson Park offers a beautiful 40-acre lake for fishing and paddling. You can rent paddleboards and take SUP yoga classes with SUPWichita right nearby. Rates are $10 per half hour or $15 per hour. SUP yoga classes are just $20 for one hour.
