100th Birthday Celebration of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X)

The Fourth Annual Malcolm X Book Fest at M.L.K. Jr. Park has been held in Winter Park, FL, every third weekend in May since 2021, in honor of one of our most courageous human rights activists, Minister Malcolm X. This year’s book festival and birthday celebration will take place on Sunday, May 18th, 2025 , commemorating the 100th birthday of El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz.

Festival activities will begin promptly at 2:00 PM at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park, FL.

Bring the whole family to enjoy:

Children’s Book Parade – Kids are invited to dress as their favorite book characters.Kids Entrepreneurship Fair – Youth can showcase and sell their products and ideas, with chances to win prizes for creativity and innovation.

-Live Performances by: KESEH, Kaamilah, K Black, Deh Prod

-Special Guest Performance: Special Guest Performance by: Young Black in Action (YBA) One of Orlando FL oldest black youth organization and band program in operation for 45 yrs, led by Howard (Mr. Flute) Gentry. YBA will perform live music for our Children's Book Parade!

-Vocalist Tamika Love Jones @tamikalovejones of Beyond Genre Music and her children’s chorus class from Creative Global Schools @cg_schools, kicking off their school fundraiser for a cultural learning tour to South Africa

-Authors, retail vendors, food vendors, and kid entrepreneurs of all ages—sign up now to be part of this empowering celebration!

-And of course-books, books, and more books!

-Meet authors, publishers, poets, and storytellers sharing their newest works. Thanks to generous sponsors Las Semillas , Dare Books (Central Florida’s oldest Black-owned bookstore), and the NBCI Trust , we will give away over $10,000 worth of free Black literature to children and youth—while supplies last!

-In celebration of Malcolm X’s centennial, The Equity Council Corp. will continue its mission by giving away powerful titles such as: The Autobiography of Malcolm X Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community? by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

-Collected speeches of Marcus Mosiah Garvey

-These special giveaways will be available to middle and high school students interested in learning more about the Pan-African Movement and the icons who helped shape it.

-Plus: Afrocentric folklore, spoken word, cultural vendors, food trucks, and a beautiful atmosphere of community, knowledge, and legacy.
