Schedule of Events:

7:30 PM: Season Finale Classical Concert: VIENNA WAITS FOR YOU

Location: Sunriver Resort Great Hall, 57081 Great Hall Loop, Sunriver

Brett Mitchell, conductor
Vitaly Starikov, piano

The Festival season finale program centers around Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, the most iconic and beloved symphony of all time, paired with a work by his teacher, Haydn. Haydn's "Miracle" Symphony clearly foreshadows Beethoven 5's main 4-note idea (‘da-da-da-dumm'). The evening includes Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 in G Major performed by Vitaly Starikov, 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Silver Medalist.

Leonard Bernstein once remarked that if pressed to name an "all-time favorite piece of music," it would be the G Major Concerto's 2nd movement (Andante), in which Mozart stands "at the peak of his lyrical powers, combining serenity, melancholy, and tragic intensity in one great lyric improvisation."

Vitaly Starikov (from Israel/Russia) is a distinguished pianist whose artistry has graced some of the world's most renowned stages, including the Sydney Opera House, Brussels BOZAR and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. His discography includes a CD of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 with Frank Braley and the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. Starikov is is a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth, Sydney International and 26th Epinal Piano Competitions.
