​The Baltimore Old Time Music Festival brings together the brightest Old Time Stringband musicians in the country to celebrate where this vibrant music form exists today. Join host artists Ken & Brad Kolodner along with a dizzying lineup for two days of concerts featuring brilliant musicianship and shimmering vocal harmonies, hands-on workshops, jamming, square dancing, conversation and revelry that’s fun for all ages.

Discover the magic of the hammered dulcimer! Instruments and hammers provided. Mary Lynn Michal will show you the basics of the instrument in this explorative workshop for complete beginners. Pre-registration is not required.

Printing Press Basics
Using a 1936 Linotype machine and vintage printing press. ​Participants will each contribute to the design of a Festival and print their own copy to take home. Each participant will have the opportunity to handset one line of large wooden or metal type that will be added to the poster. Choose your phrase, pick a font, and set your line by hand. Once assembled, you will be able to print your own copy on the Baltimore Museum of Industry’s proof press.

Appalachian Singing with Riley Baugus
A legendary Old Time musician, Riley is a renowned banjo player and vocalist from North Carolina. His singing stems from a backdrop in church singing in the Blue Ridge and rural folk songs, fiddle tunes and ballads. All levels welcome.

One of the most influential fiddlers of our time, Bruce Molsky will teach a fiddle workshop geared towards intermediate to advanced fiddlers.

Tune Writing with Natalie Padilla
Explore your creative tune-writing side you never knew was there in this hands-on workshop geared to all instruments and skill levels. Whether you're an experienced tune writer or are yet to write your first tune, now's your chance to learn from one of the best. Natalie is a brilliant tunesmith and will share her approach for how to write new melodies in the Old Time style. All instruments and skill levels welcome.

Learn how to sit in the pocket and groove along in an Old Time jam on your guitar. Bass-runs, strumming patterns and other fundamentals will be covered. All levels welcome.

One of the most dynamic young fiddlers on the scene today, Sami Braman will lead an Old Time fiddle workshop highlighting tunes from women fiddlers. This workshop geared towards intermediate to advanced fiddlers.

Songwriting with John Bolten of Geraldine
This workshop will present tools and tips for developing a unique songwriting style by exploring various approaches of song structure, melodic technique, storytelling, and lyrical styles. The only prerequisite is a love for songs. The workshop will cover different approaches for honing your songwriting craft regardless of skill level or instrument proficiency.
