Combining spoken word, music, movement, this piece explores the 1945 World Champion Cleveland Buckeyes and the role of the Negro National Leagues in shaping Cleveland, our country, and the world.

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Cleveland Buckeyes’ remarkable championship season in the Negro National Baseball League. During a time of war and racial strife the team rose up to defeat the legendary Homestead Grays in the Negro National League World Series. This epic achievement is often overshadowed in Cleveland sports lore. Created in partnership with the Baseball Heritage Museum and the Dunham Tavern Museum & Gardens, BUCKEYES: Buses & Baseball is a new theater experience that addresses this concern. Combining spoken word, music, movement, and drama three performers explore the remarkable 1945 World Champion Cleveland Buckeyes and the role of the Negro National Leagues in shaping Cleveland, our country, and the world. Each performance is a celebration of baseball, theatre, history, and the human spirit!
