With the same core group of people doing the work each year, it really makes it run like clockwork. We all know what to do, where things go, what to expect and how we can make things better. We also get a lot of fun family time (yes, we really do get along well throughout the entire event!). But best of all, we support our mission of helping people who are dealing with the hardships that come with cancer. And guess what!?! We expect to surpass donating $1,000,000 after this year’s event! We are so thankful for a community that embraces tourism, for all of the volunteers who have given their time and for the sponsors who generously support the event!
We started this festival in 2005 in memory of our mom, Jill Zehnder, who passed away in 1999 at the age of 43 after a brief battle with cancer. We come together each year to raise money for cancer prevention, bereavement, hospice care, treatment, among many other things. Together we have made a difference in so many people’s lives, and that is our motivation to keep this going. Over the years, this event has become quite the party that thousands of people look forward to and plan for months in advance. I am the youngest of Jill’s daughters and head up the operation along with my sisters, Jodi Reinert and Juli Cleary, and cousins Shelley VanWormer and Cameron Sanborn.
