Various Venues in New York
212-355-6100

This year's Crossing The Line festival highlights new collisions and experiments in audience and form, inviting art lovers to experience boundary-breaking visual art, music, film, dance, and theater all across New York City.

A family-friendly visual art exhibition-workshop—originally created by the husband-and-wife duo Clédat and Petitpierre for the Centre Pompidou—combines the tactile whimsy of mobile sculpture with interactive dance. In the evening, renowned cellist Sonia Wieder-Atherton presents the New York premiere of D'Est en musique, a gorgeous tapestry of film and music that she created in 2005 in collaboration with her late partner, the inimitable Belgian auteur Chantal Akerman.

Schedule of the Events:

Les tutomouves

As a lighter version of the monumental installation Les plantamouves originally created for the Centre Pompidou in Paris, this exhibition-workshop combines the tactile whimsy of mobile sculpture with interactive dance, inviting audiences of all ages to engage with more than 240 vibrantly colorful foam pieces through inventive video tutorials.

Tiago Rodrigues

Presented in association with BAM

Duration: 105 minutes

Returning to Crossing The Line after his directorial work on last year’s Catarina and the Beauty of Killing Fascists, Tiago Rodrigues presents another internationally acclaimed performance—only this time, he’s directing his audience. Ten audience members come together onstage for an act of collective memorization, learning a Shakespearean sonnet by heart. The results are, according to a New York Times Critic’s Pick review, “miraculous … [a] communal act of translation,” performed while Rodrigues offers direction and commentary on the transformative personal and political dimensions of memorization.
