First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: The walk will begin at the Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds in front of the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Social Hall. The conference grounds are located at 800 Asilomar Ave, Pacific Grove, CA 93950.
Parking: $10 day-use vehicle parking fee collected at entry kiosk. Parking may be available in the Whalers Cove parking lot. Free parking along Highway 1, southbound only.
Parking: Free parking in the conference grounds or along Sunset Drive.
What to Expect: Catch the year’s first sunset and celebrate new beginnings at Asilomar State Beach! Join us for a sunset walk through the restored sand dune habitat and rugged, rocky shoreline at Asilomar. Explore tidepools to discover a variety of marine animals!
Length of Hike: 1.5 mile, 2 hours
Preparation: Participants should wear layers and water-resistant shoes for tide pooling. This walk/tidepool experience will take 2 hours. Participants are welcome to walk part way and make an early return at their own pace.
