First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: Carmel Meadows Trail. The walk will begin from the trailhead near the Bay School parking lot located at 27448 CA-1, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA 93923
Parking: Free parking at the Bay School or along Highway 1 at the northern end of Monastery Beach.
What to Expect: Enjoy coastal views along Carmel Meadows Trail while learning about the cultural/ ecological heritage and the importance of this beautiful area to local Indigenous peoples. We'll see diverse native plants, current protection and restoration projects,
Length of Hike: 2.0 mile, 2 hours
Preparation: Participants should bring water and sun protection, dress in layers, and wear sturdy shoes. Waterproof boots are recommended.
Special Instructions: Steady rain, high winds, or other severe weather will cancel hike. There are no restrooms at this location. The closest restrooms are at the southern end of Monastery Beach.
Ages: Ages 10 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
