First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.

Location: Come to the main entrance of Malibu Creek State Park. Check-in at the kiosk and drive to the Main Trailhead Parking.

Parking: Park at the Malibu Creek State Park main trailhead. Parking fees:
All day – $12.00 per car, per day
3 hrs – $9.00 per car
2 hrs – $6.00 per car
1 hr – $3.00 per car

What to Expect: JR Ranger Nature Walk! Join us on a 2-mile round-trip guided nature walk along Malibu Creek to our Visitor Center as we explore how plants, animals, and humans (now and historically) are interconnected and dependent on each other. In English & Spanish.  

Length of Hike: 2.0 mile, 2 hours

Preparation: Wear hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers, water, and binoculars if you have them. This hike is geared towards children ages 6-12. This a mostly flat walk with a wide trail.  

Special Instructions: No Dogs. Rain cancels hike.

Ages: This hike is geared towards children ages 6-12 and their families. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
