First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: Meet at the main trailhead parking lot next to the restrooms.
Parking: Park at the main trailhead. Parking $3 per hour or $12 all day.
What to Expect: Join us as we explore five distinct habitats in five miles! You will learn the unique geology and geography that has created this amazing diversity. We will also celebrate the human history that has played out here for more than 7,000 years.
Length of Hike: 5.0 mile, 3 hours
Preparation: We will stop at the most popular parts of the park (including Century Lake, the Rock Pool, and the Visitor Center). This hike is 5 miles with a 300ft elevation gain. This will be done at a fairly easy pace. Wear hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers, water, and binoculars if you have them.
Special Instructions: No Dogs. Rain cancels hike.
Ages: Families and/or beginning hikers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
