Mount Diablo State Park

First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.

Location: We'll assemble at the Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center located at the end of Mitchell Canyon Road.

Parking: Fee: $6/vehicle park entrance fee. $5 for seniors. Exact cash required (no coins please); pay at the entrance gate; or pay digitally by scanning the QR code on the sign near the entrance gate or Visitor Center; or text CA2902 to 53242. No app is required.

What to Expect: Fire and Water - This year we planned three days of fire at Mount Diablo. Join us for a hands-on look at some of the gear fire crews carry, discover how fire can help the park, and walk to see what's happening now that nature is adding water.

Length of Hike: 1.5 mile, 2 hours

Preparation: Bring snacks and water. Dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. If it has been raining, be prepared for mud on the walk portion of the program. Bring poles if you normally use them.
