Based off Effie Spence’s original scripted original series, “Actorholics’ Anonymous”, “Actorholics’ Anonymous: The Agonies & Artistry of An Aging Ingénue” opens the moment before one of the main characters, Emerald, is at her lowest point in her addiction to acting. She has a deeply codependent relationship to the industry, the red herrings of countless self tapes in her bedroom, and the abuse of personal experiences to use for her next “character”.  Throughout the show, we see the different “roles” she takes on to survive in this town, navigating the grief of losing a loved one and losing herself in the process. This solo show is part comedy, part immersive, and part “eternal sunshine”. Emerald is the “every actor” and asks us, “how do we enjoy the journey?” without losing our sense of self in an industry that doesn’t have its own identity, anymore. This is a play about learning how to believe in yourself against all the odds, the addictive cycle of being an artist and walking that road alone to the point of breaking where you realize that you do deserve help, you do deserve to feel whole and you do deserve to create your life, your way. Time and space melt as we entangle the real from the fantasy, musical to parody, and blur the lines of reality as the show…must…go on…
