Dead Bird is an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull”. Developed by a diverse ensemble, the production reimagines Chekhov’s themes through a multicultural lens. The project originated as an acting exercise during one of our method acting class where we performed one of the scenes from Chekhov’s play. In order to show our growth as actors and actresses, we decided to write a new play all together, usisng Chekhov’s work as a base. In December of 2024 at The Cat’s Crawl, Dead Bird was staged and, due to it’s succes, was subsequently staged at the Lee Strasberg Institute April 2025. Directed by Lia Zhang, a teacher at Institute, Dead Bird blends elements of tragicomedy, leaning into comedic aspects while embracing dramatic peaks. The cast consists of artists from various backgrounds, including several from Mexico. This production aims to create an intimate and immersive experience, inviting the audience to become part of the narrative universe. Dead Bird offers a deeply human spectacle that showcases the cast’s emotional range and storytelling capabilities.
