Hey, I’m Ike, injured and lost in a lone desert, some 10,000 miles away from home, and I remember my dad, my coach and my lieutenant promising it. But my communication is busted. I remember the lieutenant instructing troops how to always keep it going.
Dad had a weapon – one like I have now. He needed it to protect us – me’ an Mom… From scumbags, **** and all sorts of aliens. But Dad left when I was 10. I wanted to impress Dad, playing football, taking a hit or two; fighting in this war.
I blamed Mom that Dad didn’t come to my graduation.
And I remember Olympia, the girl at high school – so different from anyone else – She mimed Pierrot at the talent show and loved my crazy computer music. She was my love – for one night. She ran away when I talked about Dad… I..I didn’t want to see it then – The pictures told me: Olympia’s dad was a hero… But instead, Olympia’s dad was a wreck and she’s the hero saving him form suicides and drug ODs, taking care of him as no one else did…
Yes, I blamed Mom for everything. That Dad had gone, did never return and that I – Ike, had to grow up a dad-less son… That everyone, my school- and football-team-mates made fun of me – “It’s all your fault, MOM!” –
But Kat – my female alter ego was the only one always there for me… Sure, Kat only exists in my head. But she pointed it out that it was Mom who stood up for me. She talked to the principle when I was suspended for kicking the older boys’ *** for kicking my *** first.
Kat reminds me that also my weapon can transmit… So I ******’ fix my communication. Barely. NOW I have only one call, two minutes. I hear the lieutenant’s warning – "Don’t call your mom, don’t call your dad, and don’t even think of calling your girlfriend.” – I hear the guys giggling: “phone sex, ha, ha.” – “Call command!”
