Scott Cohen
Scott Cohen had the good fortune of having loving grandparents in his life. Although this is not a particularly unusual situation, his were highly unconventional; they lived life on their own terms. And it turns out, the ubiquitous presence of such people during one’s formative years can have quite an effect.
In this solo performance, Scott tells two stories about his childhood experiences. The first piece, “Colorful Grandparents and Black & White Television,” primarily focuses on his grandfather. The second piece (and the title of this show), “If it’s 7:30 in the Living Room, What Time is it in the Kitchen?” remembers his grandmother.
Both stories are unapologetically nostalgic. Scott has a predilection for nostalgia. He revisits memories from days gone by. It was a simpler time, when everything was more complicated. Although Scott thinks he is just a narrator telling funny stories from long ago, he discovers that the border separating the past from the present is not so clearly marked.
