Lineup

Little Brazil

The two consistent members of Little Brazil, Landon Hedges and Dan Maxwell, have been chasing the same thrill since they were five years old, back when Dan’s older brothers started a punk band, with a practice space in the Maxwell basement. Hook, line, and sinker. Landon and Dan had no choice but to spend the rest of their pre-pubescent years crouched on the basement steps, not wearing earplugs. It didn’t matter if the music was good or bad or too loud to tell. J. Mascis and D. Boon and Paul Westerberg were alive in that basement, cranked through budget amplifiers and out of tune guitars.

Fast forward three decades and Landon and Dan are still making music together. Little Brazil is their most accomplished and longest running project – 20 years. Over that time the band has built an impressive resume. They’ve released four full lengths and done the national tours, both headlining and as support.

Longtime friends Shawn Cox on lead guitar & Austin Elsberry on drums complete the band’s lineup. The new record titled, “Just Leave,” is a 10-track exploration of life-long relationships, internal perspective & personal growth. Releases Friday, June 3, 2022 on Max Trax Records.

Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups, an alternative rock band hailing from Los Angeles, emerged from the vibrant Silver Lake music scene in 2002. Currently, the band consists of Brian Aubert (vocals, guitar), Nikki Monninger (bass, vocals), Christopher Guanlao (drums), and Joe Lester (keyboards).

Their journey began in local clubs, particularly the Silverlake Lounge and Spaceland, where they cultivated a dedicated following. Initially named “A Couple of Couples,” reflecting the romantic pairings within the original lineup, the band’s moniker evolved to “Silversun Pickups.” This name originates from a liquor store across from the Silverlake Lounge, a frequent late-night stop for the band’s friends. The band has described the name as more of “a state of mind.”

Their early years culminated in the release of their debut EP, Pikul, in July 2005, which featured Tanya Haden on cello for the track “Kissing Families.” This EP laid the groundwork for their critically acclaimed debut full-length album, Carnavas, released on July 26, 2006. They followed this success with Swoon on April 14, 2009, and Neck of the Woods on May 8, 2012, solidifying their place in the alternative rock landscape.

Magdalena Bay

Magdalena Bay is an American alternative pop duo originally from Miami, Florida, now based in Los Angeles, California. The group consists of Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, who share a long history as creative partners and bandmates. Known for their unique blend of futuristic pop, DIY aesthetics, and innovative music production and promotion, the duo has gained significant attention in the music world.

Their discography includes two critically acclaimed studio albums, three EPs, and three “Mini Mixes”—a collection of concise, one- to two-minute tracks, each paired with homemade green screen music videos. These videos, reflecting the band’s quirky, retro-inspired visual style, have become a hallmark of their kitschy, DIY approach to promotion, often infused with humor and a nostalgic nod to ’90s and early 2000s pop culture.

Band of Horses

Band of Horses is an American rock band formed in 2004 in Seattle, Washington. Known for their distinctive, soaring harmonies and introspective songwriting, the band has carved a unique space within the indie and alternative rock landscape.

The band’s origins trace back to Ben Bridwell, who, following the dissolution of his previous band, Carissa’s Weird, began crafting songs that would form the foundation of Band of Horses. Initially a solo project, Bridwell quickly enlisted other musicians, including Mat Brooke, Chris Early, and Tim Meinig, to bring his vision to life.

Their debut album, Everything All the Time, released in 2006, featuring tracks like “The Funeral,” established the band’s signature blend of folk-tinged melodies and expansive rock instrumentation.

The band’s second album, Cease to Begin (2007), further solidified their reputation, showcasing their growth in songwriting and production. This album featured popular tracks such as “Ode to LRC” and “No One’s Gonna Love You.”

Their subsequent albums, Infinite Arms (2010), Mirage Rock (2012), Why Are You OK (2016), and Things Are Great (2022), have continued to explore themes of personal reflection, nostalgia, and the complexities of human relationships. Band of Horses has consistently delivered emotionally resonant music, marked by Bridwell’s evocative vocals and the band’s lush, layered arrangements.

Waxahatchee

One of the hardest-working singer-songwriters in the game is named Katie Crutchfield. She was born in Alabama, grew up near Waxahatchee Creek. Skipped town and struck out on her own as Waxahatchee. That was over a decade ago. Crutchfield says she never knew the road would lead her here, but after six critically acclaimed albums, she’s never felt more confident in herself as an artist. While her sound has evolved from lo-f I folk to lush alt-tinged country, her voice has always remained the same. honest and close, poetic with southern lilting. much like Carson McCullers’s Mick Kelly, determined in her desires and convictions, ready to tell whoever will listen.

And after years of being sober and stable in Kansas City–after years of sacrificing herself to her work and the road–Crutchfield has arrived at her most potent songwriting yet. On her new album, ‘Tigers Blood’, Crutchfield emerges as a powerhouse–an ethnologist of the self–forever dedicated to revisiting her wins and losses. But now she’s arriving at revelations and she ain’t holding them back.

Crutchfield says that she wrote most of the songs on ‘Tigers Blood’ during a “hot hand spell,” while on tour in the end of 2022. and when it came time to record, Crutchfield returned to her trusted producer Brad Cook, who brought her sound to a groundbreaking turning point on 2020’s ‘Saint Cloud.’ ‘Tigers Blood’ also finds Crutchfield folding new collaborators into her world, with performances on the album by MJ Lenderman, Spencer Tweedy and Phil and Brad Cook.

Pixies

Known for their distinctive “loud-quiet-loud” dynamics, the Pixies blended punk and surf rock influences with melodic yet abrasive songwriting. Black Francis’s cryptic lyrics, often exploring offbeat subjects like UFOs and surrealism, became a hallmark of their sound.

The band’s impact on the alternative rock scene is undeniable. Though they disbanded in 1993, just before the genre’s mainstream explosion, their influence was cemented by artists like Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, who openly acknowledged their debt to the Pixies.

The band has continued to evolve over time but maintained their signature sound. On October 25, 2024, the Pixies released their ninth full-length studio album, The Night the Zombies Came, produced by Tom Dalgety, who also worked on their previous three studio albums.
