Fall Into STEM Careers, Art & Urban Farming with Koiner Farm!

Interested in careers in science, food service jobs or agriculture? Explore STEM career options, ask questions, make art, earn SSL hours, learn about helping your community, and help our community and the Little Free Seed Library of downtown Silver Spring’s urban farm, Koiner Farm! This SSL opportunity will take place in McGee Library’s 3rd Floor Meeting Room. Learn about Koiner Farm’s incredible history and current role empowering, feeding and teaching our vibrant community. Harvest seeds from dried flower heads and decorate seed envelopes with info about the seeds and what the plants look like! Your beautiful envelopes of seeds will go to the Little Free Seed Library for the public to use and plant.

This event is presented by Koiner Farm, the first urban farm in Maryland to be permanently preserved under a conservation easement and the flagship farm of the Charles Koiner Conservancy for Urban Farming (CKC). The easement permits the continued agricultural use of the property and protects access for the public. CKC hosts educational programs for local schools and community groups, while maintaining the farm with help from interns and volunteers. CKC is a nonprofit land trust that protects and manages urban farms in Montgomery County, Maryland to help people connect with their land, their food and their neighbors.

This program is most appropriate for ages 13-19. Library Program Attendance is limited to participants within the suggested age range of the program.

The Maryland STEM Festival is a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics designed to advance STEM and STEAM education for children and teens that takes place every fall.
