Summer is here, and like every year, Tallahassee Hispanic Theater brings another edition of its Annual Micro Theater Festival. As always, the festival will take place at the beautiful Goodwood Museum & Gardens.

The Micro Theater Festival has become a staple in the cultural summer landscape of north Florida, and like every year it will present a series of 15 to 20-minute plays written by Hispanic playwrights, performed in English. Some of the plays will be presented in translation for the first time.

Musical guests will include Charles Santiago, who will perform Hispanic guitar music, and Isa y el Combo Machete who will offer their Latin twist with boleros, cumbias, sones and bossa.

As usual, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy Hispanic drinks and food (available for purchase) before and throughout the event. The food will be provided by the local Venezuelan food truck Tally Arepas. And Le Point Bakery will be selling delicious desserts.

Following the premise of bringing audiences closer to short theatrical performances in alternative spaces, the festival will take place in the Carriage House, part of the historic grounds of the Goodwood Museum and Gardens, where audiences can enjoy the surroundings, music, food, and performances while moving freely through the space, mingling with others and enjoying the casual atmosphere.

These are the plays that will be presented this year:

With Background Music written by Gracia Morales and translated by A. David Hitchcock. In this play, an elderly couple struggles with their decisions about love, ageing, and taking control of the inevitable. Meanwhile, their grown children wade through those consequences and negotiate the terms of life and loss in the fluorescent, liminal space of a hospital room. Directed by Marlene DuBois.

Forever 32 written by Julio García and translated by Alejandra Gutierrez. 142 years ago, Angeles was part of an experiment conducted by the now infamous Dr. Rodriguez, which made her immortal. After years looking for him, in 2160, she finally finds him in a pseudo clinic in Switzerland, where, fed up with life, she demands an antidote for her condition. Directed by Leon L. Alexander

Limbo written by Victor Iriarte and translated by Chris Dolan. In this play, a disoriented man faces a grumpy public worker who is going to help him with a peculiar “tax” declaration. However, when the questions become more personal and don’t fit in the form, we realize that he isn’t in an IRS office but in limbo, where he will find that not even there can he dodge a complex and hilarious bureaucratic system. Directed by Jeff Mandel.

Two Moons. This play is an adaptation of the published short story “Las dos lunas”, written and translated by Alejandra Gutierrez. A young girl with a strong bond with her grandmother leaves behind childhood in this story of love, family, and loss. This play will be performed in English and Spanish. Directed by Tahirih Lee

The Russian Plan written by Aurora Mateo and translated by Iride Lamartina-Lens. This is a funny piece about a couple looking for a solution to straighten out their problematic teenage son. Maybe the answer is the Russian plan! Directed by Danielle Wirsansky.
