The Newport International Boat Show (NIBS), one of the largest and most prestigious boat shows in the Northeast, spans over seventeen acres with multiple interconnected show sites in historic downtown Newport, Rhode Island. The Cruisers Classroom is located ‘below-deck’ at the Hammetts entrance to the Boat Show. These discussions and panels take place in a classroom setting and are complimentary to all boat show attendees. Topics are designed to enhance your boating knowledge and skills—whether you're new to boating or a seasoned mariner. Topics cover a wide range of marine-related subjects, including liveaboard life, transitioning from sail to power cruising, offshore sailing and planning, the advantages and uses of lithium-ion batteries, boating safety, finding your ideal cruiser, financing 101, dockage, safety tips, maintenance, and more.
Classes being offered all four days of the show. This educational classroom is walk-up only and a complimentary experience for all to enjoy. Seating is limited to 40 per class.

You’ve probably heard the phrase “drop-in replacement” some are applying to lithium-ion batteries. This seminar will offer up the facts that dispel this notion. Following ABYC standards that apply to this technology, as well as detailed manufacturer recommendations, this seminar will give you the details you need before you make an expensive mistake with this new technology.
The Electronically Controlled Diesel Engines - What You Need to Know Workshop:
Join ABYC expert and Boat of the Year judge Ed Sherman for this 3-hour workshop on electronically controlled diesel engines. If you currently own a newer boat or are looking to purchase one soon, here’s what you need to know to keep your electronically controlled diesel engine happy and running like new. This seminar will cover maintenance you can do yourself as well as basic troubleshooting procedures when its not running like new.
Gel Coat Repair Workshop:
Join Composites Hall-of-Famer Bob Lacovara for a 3-hour workshop to explore gel coat technology and repair techniques. Learn the basic chemistry and effective repair methods to restore a gel coat finish. This session highlights common issues like cracking and exposure damage. Through in-shop demonstrations, you will discover why cracks occur and gain practical skills in how to restore gel coat with professional results.
