Race for the Watershed: 5K and Duck Race

Saturday, Jun 15, 2024 at 9:00am

219 Cheyney Road

Help support healthy waterways in our community! Held in partnership with Concord Township, this event is a fundraiser to help raise money to protect and preserve the watershed in the park. Funds raised will go toward the purchase of equipment to conduct snapshot surveys of Chester Creek, enabling NGM to test multiple locations along the creek simultaneously. The Chester creek is listed as impaired by the Pennsylvania DEP, and this snapshot study is an important first step in identifying what the issues are (identification of pollutants, for example) so we can then create a plan to address them on a county-wide level. When water quality is low, it has a detrimental impact on human health and safety, as well as the plants and animals that survive and thrive both in and near our waterways. Currently, very little local level data is available for the township’s smaller waterways, and conducting these snapshot surveys will help inform decisions on ways to improve water quality within the watershed.

The day will kick off at 9am with a 5K race on the trails, followed by duck races in the creek at 10:30am and a grand reopening celebration of the water system at 1pm. Not a runner? Don’t worry, there will be plenty to see and discover with kids games, vendors, exhibitors, music, and food trucks.

5K: $35 per runner entry fee. $40 day of. Prizes will be awarded in each age group for both men and women.

Duck Race: $20 per duck or $50 for 3 ducks. $1,000 cash grand prize.
