The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival is one of the most respected and renowned chamber music festivals in the world, and part of its allure, for audiences and musicians alike, is that it draws inspiration from its namesake hometown, which is famously and affectionately known as the City Different.

The program for the July 23 noon recital has been updated and will now feature soprano Ailyn Pérez and pianist Julius Drake performing Robert Schumann’s profoundly expressive song cycle Frauenliebe und Leben, along with works by Richard Strauss, Joaquín Turina, and Xavier Montsalvatge.

Five mesmerizing musicians—pianists Juho Pohjonen and Orion Weiss, violinist Paul Huang, and cellists Nicholas Canellakis and Mark Kosower—come together in various pairings for this wonderfully intimate program, which begins with a lesser-known gem—the Serenade for Two Cellos and Piano by the 19th-century Italian cello virtuoso Carlo Alfredo Piatti—and includes Beethoven’s masterful Violin Sonata in C Minor, which has the same key and intensity found in some of the composer’s most dramatic large-scale works, plus Dvořák’s beloved and emotionally complex Dumky Trio.
