2:00 PM : A Baroque Play-in with New Baroque Orchestra and Lindsey Strand-Polyak
Festival a Français
Don't just attend concerts at the EMS Festival this weekend— come musick with us! Join Lindsey Strand-Polyak and the New Baroque Orchestra as we have a play-in exploring music of Louis XIV’s impressive court orchestra— one that set the standard for the next hundred years. This large, public music will be explored in contrast to the very intimate chamber music that Lindsey Strand-Polyak and friends will be performing on Sunday November 10 as part of the EMS Festival. We’ll explore orchestral music of Lully, Marais, Rameau and more. This event is open to all instrumentalists playing at A-415′: violin family, gambas, recorders, flutes, oboes, bassoons, frame drums, trumpets, harp, guitars, harpsichord, and beyond. If you can read the music, you can play the parts! A link to parts to practice in advance will be sent with Play-in registration in October. Refreshments will be served as we make new friends and keep on musicking.

Spanish Baroque
Besides being a fabulous baroque violinist, Guillermo Salas-Suárez is literally writing the book on 18th-century Spanish violin music. Most programs of Baroque music focus on French, German, and Italian repertoire. From that point of view Spain may seem a bit out of the way. Yet 18th-century Spain had a vibrant musical culture, attracting some of the best foreign musicians as well as exporting Spanish musicians to major cities abroad. Guillermo Salas-Suárez joins harpsichordist Byron Schenkman for a program of music by Luigi Boccherini , Francisco Corselli , Marianna Martines , and Padre Antonio Soler.
