Schedule:

10:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: National Liberty Museum

Complete your journey through Historic Philadelphia by engaging in the power of liberty today at the National Liberty Museum! Join us for activities marking the Independence Day season and delve into the rich complexity of the American story through our newest exhibition, In Pursuit: Artists’ Perspective on a Nation. Ongoing activities include a community art-making experience inspired by artwork in the exhibition, interactive button making and a photo booth at our Creation Station, and the opportunity to ring our replica Liberty Bell.

Community Art-Making Experience: Connect with fellow museum visitors and contribute to our ongoing community art project. Share your reflections on the exhibition, exchange perspectives and ideas, and celebrate the power of art to unite and inspire.

Creation Station: Use your artistic inspiration and take home your own piece of the Museum. Design and create custom buttons inspired by the art on display or your own unique vision. Strike a pose and capture the memories with friends and family in our themed photo booth.

Let Freedom Ring: Make a donation in support of the Museum for the opportunity to let freedom ring by sounding our replica of the famous Liberty Bell.

10:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: The Barnes Foundation

Enjoy free access to the Barnes collection, Matisse and Renoir: New Encounters at the Barnes, and Visions exhibitions.

The Barnes is home to one of the world’s greatest collections of impressionist, post-impressionist, and early modern paintings, with especially deep holdings in Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso. Assembled by Dr. Albert C. Barnes between 1912 and 1951, the collection also includes important examples of African art, Native American pottery and jewelry, Pennsylvania German furniture, American avant-garde painting, and wrought-iron metalwork.

The minute you step into the galleries of the Barnes collection, you know you’re in for an experience like no other. Masterpieces by Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso hang next to ordinary household objects—a door hinge, a spatula, a yarn spinner. On another wall, you might see a French medieval sculpture displayed with a Navajo textile. These dense groupings, in which objects from different cultures, time periods, and media are all mixed together, are what Dr. Barnes called his "ensembles."

"Matisse and Renoir: New Encounters at the Barnes," presented in the Roberts Gallery, offers a fresh perspective on renowned canvases from the collection. Featuring approximately 35 iconic works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Henri Matisse from the second floor of the collection galleries, the exhibition reflects the expansion of the Barnes’s educational program and emphasizes the historical and cultural context of the works.

10:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m: Free Museum Days: The Rodin Museum

Experience one of the world’s greatest collections of work by Auguste Rodin in an elegant Beaux-Arts style building and garden on Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
