Join the Friends of the Library in a celebration of reading & writing by participating in the West Texas Book Festival. A great lineup of authors and activities have been planned, and we encourage you to take part in the literary fun in Abilene, TX.
Schedule of Events:
9:15AM - 10:15AM: Celebrating The Texas Book Lists
As part of the West Texas Book Festival events, we invite you to attend this free hour-long workshop that will explore the celebrated Texas Book Lists such as the Texas Bluebonnet Award, Lone Star Reading List, Lariat, Maverick, and many others. Hear from library experts on how to incorporate selections from these lists into your own reading and programs.
10:30AM - 11:30AM: Writing & Publishing Children's Books
Join in on a great panel discussion on Writing & Publishing Children’s Books. This workshop will guide writers through the path to publication with tips and helpful information from experienced authors. Their collective behind-the-scenes industry access will offer guests with a unique opportunity to ask questions that may more effectively get their books noticed. Authors available includes Cate Berry, Carmen Oliver, and Callie Metler-Smith. Berry is the author of Penguin and Tiny Shrimp Don’t Do Bedtime!, Oliver is the author of Bears Make the Best Reading Buddies, and Metler-Smith is the owner of Clear Fork Media Group and the author of Ben’s West Texas Snow.
11:30AM - 1:30PM: Boots & Books Luncheon
Guests will be treated to a catered lunch while enjoying the presentation of the 2018 A.C. Greene Award, presented annually to a distinguished Texas author for lifetime achievement. This year’s recipient is Glenn Dromgoole, who has written a new book called Book Guy: One Author’s Adventures in Publishing. As stated by Dromgoole, “you’ve probably heard me say that every book tells at least two stories - the story inside the covers of the book, and the story outside the covers. In Book Guy, I focus on the stories outside the covers of my thirty (now thirty-one) books and some others that I’ve helped publish.” You'll certainly want to be a part of this special luncheon that will honor a well-respected author in Abilene. The doors will open at 11:30AM, with lunch beginning at noon, and there will be a book signing with Dromgoole at 1:15PM as well.
Ticket Prices: $30 per person, $240 for a table of 8.
