It’s easy to see why Amicalola Falls State Park is one of the most popular Georgia State Parks with 829 acres of beautiful North Georgia mountain wilderness in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning “tumbling waters,” is an appropriate name for the 729-foot falls, the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. An eight-mile approach trail leads from the park to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the 2,150-mile Appalachian Trail. Many other beautiful and diverse trails wind through the park and activities are abundant at the Amicalola Falls Visitors Center.
We are a pet-friendly State Park as long as your pets are friendly and always kept on a short, sturdy leash. Please be courteous to other patrons and be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of our park and trails by cleaning up after your animals. Please contact Reservations for overnight accommodations that include your canine companion.

Those who tackle the latter can join the park’s Canyon Climbers Club. An 8.5-mile trail leads from the park to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the famous 2,175-mile Appalachian Trail. Numerous other trails provide shorter day hikes. The park also offers several outdoor picnic shelters, a large group amphitheater, two playgrounds and comfort stations throughout the park.
