Bald Point State Park

146 Box Cut Road
850-349-9146

Some of the most picturesque scenic areas along north Florida's Gulf Coast are found within the park which supports 4,065 upland acres.

Located on Alligator Point, where Ochlockonee Bay meets Apalachee Bay, Bald Point offers a multitude of land and water activities. Coastal marshes, pine flatwoods, and oak thickets foster a diversity of biological communities that make the park a popular destination for birding and wildlife viewing. Each fall, bald eagles and other migrating raptors, along with monarch butterflies, are commonly seen heading south for the winter.

Bald Point offers access to two Apalachee Bay beaches for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing. Facilities include a fishing dock and picnic pavilions.

Canoeing and Kayaking
Visitors enjoy canoeing on Chaires Creek and Tucker Lake, a large brackish lake connected to the Ochlockonee Bay by way of Chaires Creek. To explore the extensive tidal creek system, it is a short paddle to Chaires Creek from the Tucker Lake canoe/kayak launch. To access the canoe and kayak launch take the last dirt service road on the right off of Range Road 200 yards west of the Chaires Creek Bridge. The dirt parking area at the launch site can accommodate 12 vehicles during dry conditions. The launch area is a flat sandy area where vehicles can unload canoes and kayaks near the waters edge.

Fishing
At Bald Point’s North End and Sunrise entrances, surf fishing and wading out to oyster bars is a popular pastime.

There is also a small fishing pier, with mobi-mat access, located in the park where Bald Point Road terminates at Ochlockonee Bay. This is located in the area known as the North End Entrance. Among the varieties of saltwater fish found in the brackish tidal waterway are redfish, trout, flounder and mackerel.

Visitors may fish on the bridge over tidal Chaires Creek off of Range Road, and in Tucker Lake, by canoe or kayak. Sea trout, red fish, flounder and sheepshead are common catches. This is also an excellent area to cast net for mullet or to catch blue crabs.

All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season.  A fishing license may be required.  More information is available at the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.
