The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation offers everyone, both our young athletes and the young at heart athletes of both genders an opportunity to participate in our recreation and athletic programs. Why we do it, to serve an entire community while maintaining connections with individual participants. The Brownsville Sports Park has something for everyone!
As in so many other aspects of life, the key to running a successful Program is having the ability to strike a balance between young and old, tradition and innovation, and the needs of one versus the needs of many. Keeping this in mind, our employees continually strive to honor the past while embracing the challenges of the future.
History:
From the early days of Ringgold Park, Edelstein Park, Washington Park, Gonzalez Park, and Oliveira Park and with the movement of Health and Wellness, Extreme-Games, and recreation activities across the country, Brownsville has moved ahead in this new century and has catapulted to a new and innovative premier sports park in the State of Texas “Brownsville Sports Park! “
The story of the Brownsville Sports Park begins in November 2002 with a public hearing held to discuss the Brownsville Sports Park project. In January of 2003, the City Commission approved the BCIC Board Project: Brownsville Sports Park.
The project materialized further as the land purchase for the Sports Park was completed in June 2004. This was followed by the approval of the Master Plan and Phase I Design in December of that same year.
Finally, in August of 2006, the Groundbreaking took place. With this, Phase I development was started and the race was on.
