About Us:

A 48-acre “Nature’s Classroom” dedicated to promoting horticultural and environmental awareness through displays, education and research, the Chesapeake Arboretum was dedicated at its current site in November, 1996, and boasts one of Virginia’s finest trail systems that wanders through a mature hardwood forest with many varieties of trees and plants.

On the grounds of the farmhouse that serves as the Arboretum Headquarters building are a number of theme gardens, including fragrance and antique rose gardens, as well as several demonstration gardens. Periodic events are held on our grounds, including Arbor Day, Global Youth Service Day, tree tours, AutumnFest, etc. The Arboretum has won numerous Chesapeake Environmental Improvement Council awards, is an Elizabeth River Project RiverStar and was certified a Virginia Green Attraction by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality in 2009. Listed on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail as well as the American Camellia Society Trail, the Chesapeake Arboretum is non-profit and depends on grants, donations, contributions, volunteers and membership dues for its operations.
