Goddard Park

Wickerton Road (Route 841) intersection of State Road and East and West Avondale Road

The 125-acre site was assembled by the Township over the past decade with a most generous donation of 40 acres from Steven and Marna Goddard. The Park is located on the West side of Wickerton Road (Route 841) and stretches from the intersection of State Road down to the intersection of East & West Avondale Road. The Park will take several phases to be complete. The configuration of facilities is presented in the Master Site Plan, which was created by a citizen task force with substantial public input. When completed, Park is to have 2 multi-purpose playing fields, two baseball fields, two tennis courts, a basketball court, volleyball court, an amphitheater, playground, community garden, fishing pier, with handicapped accessibility, dog park, a multi-use building (to contain classroom space for environmental education programs) a solar powered composting rest room, in addition to the extensive trail system with stream crossings. The Township has completed Goddard Park Phase 1, with most of this Phase, supported by funding from Chester County and PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) with PECO Grant funding the Kiosk. The dog park was completed by the Townships Public Works Department.

Phase 1 of Goddard Park was completed with the Grand Opening Celebration on April 28, 2012. Completed in this Phase; access and parking area, playground featuring a unique play structure and most of the park's trail system, about 13,400 linear feet, which is a little over two and half miles, when complete the trail system will be approximately 15,700 linear feet which is a little over 3 miles, also included was the bridge access to the pond area (see attachements below). Approvals include trail connections from the east, north, and west, with the trail network planned to provide park access from all points of the Township.

At present the Parks and Recreation Board have been focusing on finalizing the plans for Phase 2 construction for the past several months. This phase will bring several new and exciting aspects to the park, construction expected to start in the spring so please be cautious as work is being performed.
