Highland Skating Club

History:

The Highland Skating Club, originally known as the Burien Skating Club, was established in 1964.  The club moved from Burien to Ballard then to its current location in 1983 when the club was renamed the "Highland Skating Club."

The Highland Skating Club is a member of US Figure Skating, the governing body for figure skating in the United States.  U.S. Figure Skating was formed in 1921 and is a member of the International Skating Union (ISU), the body that governs the sport internationally.  Each year in September, Highland hosts "Blades on Ice," which is a local competition that is open to everyone.  It is one of the club's important fund raisers along with it's major fund raiser - hosting Winterfest at the Seattle Center from Thanksgiving through January 1st.  All members of the club are encouraged to participate in both fund raisers.

The Highland Skating Club is also a member of the Pacific Northwest Inter-Club Association, the regional organization whose board meets quarterly to promote a unified skating community. The Pacific Northwest Inter-Club Association conducts an annual summer competition, which all U.S. Figure Skating registered skaters, as well as registered skater from other countries may enter.
