About Us:

The Van Nuys family came to this country from Amsterdam in 1685. They began farming on the east coast upon arrival and in the Somerset County area in New Jersey in the early 1700’s. Jacob Van Nuys fought in the American Revolution and was stationed at the Neshanic Reformed Church. The family expanded their reach to the west coast in the mid 1800’s, where they are still farming and are known for their vineyards in Van Nuys, California.

Hillsboro Farm was created in 1867 in New Jersey by Peter Van Nuys, and the 6th, 7th, and 8th generations of the Van Nuys family continue to operate it today. Originally a dairy farm with over 150 milking cows, Hillsboro Farm continues the Van Nuys tradition of “changing with the times”, and now focuses on providing the New Jersey community with farm fresh produce in the summer and fall, featuring old fashioned pumpkin picking activities and hay ride activities during the Halloween season at the Country Market. Other current crops at Hillsboro Farm include hay, straw, rye, and soybeans that are shipped worldwide.
