About Us:
Dave Whitney and his family moved to the Stanchfield Farm in 1987. Prior to farming, Dave and Donna worked in the Twin Cities. Since moving, Dave has been a berry and vegetable grower and began full time farming in 1999. His operation is a father-son operation with son Jacob who graduated in 2003. Dave's passion is growing the berry crops for pick your own, on the farm sales.
Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries can all be found on the farm. Jacob's passion is growing 1200 apple trees of various varieties. He mainly grows varieties developed by the University of Minnesota, including Sweetango, Honeycrisp, Snowsweet, Zestar, Harlson, Frostbite, and Honeygold. David and Jacob also grow fall produce, which includes sweet corn, squash, pumpkins, potatoes, and onions. They have field corn and hay as well, for their cow-calf herd on 140 acres. David and Donna also have a daughter Amy.
In 2012, the Whitney farm earned the title of Minnesota Farm Family of the Year. The Whitneys are proud members of the Apple Growers Association, as well as the Berry Growers Association and the Farm Bureau. In addition to working on the farm, Donna does a great deal of volunteering for Siloa Lutheran Church.
