The St. Mary's Athletic Complex was formally dedicated on November 18, 2003 in front of 1,700 spectators on hand for the Detroit Red Wing Alumni - St. Mary's Hockey Alumni Game. The "jewel" SMAC is a NHL-size ice hockey rink that is in use year-round, most notably by the State Champion St. Mary's Preparatory Hockey Team. The arena offers several well-received community programs. Among them, time set aide at noon seven days a week for public skating, instruction classes for tots to adults, execise programs for senior citizens and adults that make use of the upper level indoor running track and fitness center, and skating parties for occasions as birthdays, and holidays. A portable floor is available to cover the ice rink for major events, such as Graduation, the Annual Auction, and Founders' Day. There is also a second level banquet/conference room that can hold up to 300 persons that overlooks the track and arena. A fully-equipped weight-training and fitness center is popular with St. Mary's athletes. Wrestlers have their own area for practices and meets. The National Polish-American Sports Hall of Fame is also on the second level.
