About Us:
UMD has had a farmer's market on campus since 2000. Over the years, the location has changed and the weekly summer event has grown to include artists, musicians, and other specialty vendors. All of the farmer's market vendors are local, sustainable growers, and many are organic.
The market runs each Wednesday through September 28. It starts at 1:30 pm and continues until 4:30 pm, rain or shine.
Deb Shubat, director of the UMD greenhouse, sells vegetables, fruits, baked goods, and cut flowers every week. She has been involved in the market since the beginning and had a role in its growth.
Shubat started the UMD Farmer's Market along with other supportive UMD employees and Sustainable Farmers. It became UMD Market Day in the Plaza in 2006 when the event was moved to Kirby Plaza, and Auxiliary Services (UMD Stores and Food Services) provided funding to hire local musicians. Art and craft vendors were added in 2008.
