Curwensville Days - Old Time Fiddlers’ Contest

Irvin Park

Our fiddlers’ contest is a Friday June 21. Registration is free and will begin at 5:30. The contest has always had a wonderful turnout and I hope the same is true for this year, despite the changes to the festival this year!

Bring a lawn chair and prepare to be entertained by wonderful fiddlers from across the state competing for cash money prizes! The contest is hosted by local fiddler, educator, and entertainer, Megan McGarry.

Contestants should prepare three fiddle tunes (a hoedown, a waltz, and a tune of choice) to be played in our band stand. Each contestant will perform their three songs on stage with or without the us of a guitar accompaniment, competing in their respective age division. We will have a panel of three judges evaluating fiddlers with their back turned using a criteria of musicality.

While judges deliberate, the contestants and students from McGarry Music Studio beginner fiddle class will perform a couple of songs (Boil Em Cabbages and Ida Red together on stage as a “Round Robin” before winners are announced.

Join us for a fun evening of fiddling!
